The Outsider- Edinburgh

Well-situated at the top of Victoria Street in Edinburgh is The Outsider. Offering nice food options at a fair price, and perhaps the world’s funniest wine list, it’s a real gem. Views of the castle attract tourists in the early evening and couples in the later hours. With lit, tapered candles that seem like a fire hazard, but are quite charming, who could blame them.

The specials and drinks change daily and are charmingly handwritten on the menu board both outside and online. This particular night a 5 GBP orangey gin and tonic was all the rage and was absolutely refreshing.

I opted for their well-known moules frites, whose garlicky broth is occasionally speckled with lardons. If there’s ever an indulgent meal that makes you want to clean your plate/drink the broth– this is it.

Bookings are recommended for this busy restaurant near the main thoroughfare, but the ambiance, food, wine, and service will ensure you have a lovely evening in Edinburgh.
