Hotel Lavaux

I’d been keeping an eye on Hotel Lavaux basically since I’d moved to Switzerland in September. It’s a small, modern boutique hotel set in a vineyard field. Just kind of remote enough and priced just right for an impromptu night away at 98 CHF for a single room. Honestly, the hotel was great. Really well situated near the Epesses train station, a 30 minute walk from Cully. Unfortunately the path to Vevay was blocked (for five years) for construction, but it’s just another reason to return. The hotel was impressively clean. My room was immaculate and the restaurant well spaced for a pandemic. Even the public areas and restrooms were crystal clean. I’d have expressed how impressed I was, but I don’t know how to say that in French or was too tired to give it a go after bantering (or attempting) to with the waitstaff the evening prior.

You’re immediately greeted with a pretty, modern terrace, oddly situated on the main road.

The lobby was extremely small and sparse, letting the terrace off to the side do the heavy lifting of coffee and croissants.

My room was a single and was immaculate. Cozy bedding and blackout blinds made it excellent for sleeping. The children in the hallway did not.

Sparse, but really, you wouldn’t need more.

My view was of “the vineyards.” Really it was a retaining wall and a clear staircase which was helpful if I wanted to be stared at while lounging in bed. I did not.

Safe and a stocked mini fridge were a nice touch.

Bath was extremely narrow, but it didn’t matter too much.

Shower had good pressure and did it’s job of washing off my hiking sweat.

The roof terrace, despite having a massive sign on the side of the hotel, was largely desolate. A man joined me for sundown and a couple came and went, but for a sold-out hotel, I was a bit shocked this wasn’t a happening place on a gorgeous Saturday night.

I would absolutely return to Hotel Lavaux, award a trio of macarons for it’s cleanliness, restaurant, and location. While lovely, it was sparse and the desk staff seemed annoyed with me both via email and in person, so three of the four macarons it would be. Thanks for an overall lovely night away, Hotel Lavaux.
