After a long conference in Basel, I trained down to Lake Como for a few, amazing, glorious days at the eleven room, Villa La Mirabella. This family-run villa from the 1860’s is well situated just north of Tremezzo in Griante which is handy for all types of ferries and is in walking distance of plenty of bars, restaurants, and the very wonderful Hotel Grand Tremezzo.
The yellow villa was easy to find and looked just like the website photos.

The room was old-timey with few modern updates like a mini fridge and safe. The bed was serviceable and the room supposedly had air-con, but the 105 degree temperatures were just a bit too much it to ever actually cool down. The working windows would have been absolutely lovely had it been about 30 degrees cooler.

The view from the room was just gorgeous, snow-capped mountains behind Lake Como.

On the sloping garden in the back of the hotel featured a small pool that I used more than a couple of times. I attempted to read, but was too mesmerized by the view.

The view!

The rest of the house was adorned with period furnishing and was a little formal, but quite pretty.

Each room comes with breakfast, served in a sun room in the front of the villa. This was the view each day. Terrible, right?

The daily spread included all the breads, ham & cheese, a rotating pastry, fruit and yogurt, and coffee. So much!

After breakfast is the perfect time to check out the gardens and walk some of those calories off.

Villa La Mirabella is definitely a beautiful place and a good value (~$140 for a lake front room) on Lake Como. I’d definitely stay here again barring it cooled off a bit. The staff could not have been more helpful with any needs and planning of day trips and ferry travel.
