Hoot the Redeemer

Hoot the Redeemer. Yes, that’s the name of a bar. An incredible bar. Perhaps one of my favorite drinking holes I’ve ever set foot in, anywhere in the world. Where do I even begin??

The door is hippie, psychic chic, yet totally unassuming. It fits in well with its old, Edinburgh surroundings, just off the main drag. It took me a moment to realize that I was even upon it.

The psychic sign just outside the entrance should have tipped me off, but it looked like it could have, indeed been the sign of a real business.

The dark, damp stairway full of neon lights was wonderful.

Even better was the door to the bar. Who I must assume is “Hoot” is built into the actual door. You must push her open to enter the bar while she gives you all sorts of modern advice about men and selfies as you stand before her to do so.

Upon entering, you are greeted by an average looking bar to the right and this adult ice cream machine to the left.

Here’s a taste of the flavors. I needed about four more people with me so I could have tried everything.

Then there was the alcoholic claw machine. You clawed at your desired ball, which would then determine your drink’s flavor. You choose the spirit and they mix you up something delightful.

Who doesn’t love a three-breasted mascot?

Hoot also offers adult slushies. I know, it really is too good to be true. I came in after the
Bacardi one that was “slushie of the month” and had won awards at Taste of the Cocktail. Unfortunately, they were fresh out. Boo.

So, I had to stick with something tequila based ordered on the garnish description of “jalepeno glitter.” Wouldnt’ that be a great stripper name?

It was truly delicious. I couldnt’ narrow down a second drink, there were just too many to choose from, so I hightailed it to dinner. I can’t recommend this place enough and look forward to making this an Edinburgh staple.
